How to Verify Genuine Electronics Before a Bulk Gifting Order

Grey-market stock looks identical until a unit fails. Six checks that separate authorised distributor stock from imported or refurbished goods.

A bulk gifting order is the worst place to discover you bought grey-market stock, because the failure surfaces months later, in someone else's hands, in another city. These are the checks that matter before you place the order.

1. Ask for the GST invoice in advance

Ask to see a sample invoice before ordering. It should carry the supplier's GSTIN, HSN codes and a clear tax split. A seller who will only give a cash bill or an estimate is telling you something important.

2. Confirm the warranty is the Indian manufacturer warranty

There is a difference between a manufacturer warranty and a seller warranty. Imported stock often carries a seller-backed replacement promise instead, which is worthless once that seller stops trading. Ask explicitly: is this serviceable at the brand's own service centres in India?

3. Check the distributor relationship

Authorised distributors buy direct from the brand. Ask which brands the supplier is authorised for and expect a straight answer. Nalanda Enterprises is an authorised distributor for the brands it carries and buys direct rather than through importers.

4. Look at the price sceptically

Genuine distributor pricing is meaningfully below marketplace listing prices, because the distributor margin is real. But a price far below every other quote usually means refurbished units, parallel imports, or old stock with degraded batteries. If one quote is dramatically lower than three others, ask what is different about it.

5. Ask about batch and manufacture dates

Batteries age on the shelf. For power banks and anything with a large cell, ask how recent the batch is. A gift that arrives with a two-year-old battery will disappoint within months.

6. Request a sample unit

For any order of real size, get one unit first. Check the seal, the retail packaging, the warranty card, and that the serial registers with the brand's app or website where one exists.

Why it matters more for gifting

For a personal purchase, a failure is an inconvenience. For a gifting programme, a batch failure is a reputational problem with your own staff or your clients, and you will be handling it without the original packaging or a per-unit invoice.
